Originally by: Butter Dog Lets be clear about the numbers: Coaltion had over 400 in BKG, and 200 jumped in from OP9. Thats 600. They had caps on standby. HYDRA got caught with their pants down on the way, but that would have been another 130. So their numbers were at least 800 in total. Local numbers before they jumped in never topped 270.
Of the 600 who jumped into Z-K, about 400 are now dead, and the rest will die when they log in :)
Lag effected us very badly, but we actively and calmly managed it through various means (such as Darths special ability to see BS no-one else could, and activate his fighters ).
Fighters don't auto-aggro. I know this because my carrier had drones out for 5 hours and didnt get on a single killmail until very late in the fight when I could actually assign the little buggers. However, if you shoot a carrier they will aggro, but that requires you to lock and fire (ie, not be totally lagged out).
We won the fight because the coalitions only tactic was 'uberblob' and I can only imagine they were hoping for a node crash. I have no respect whatsoever for this approach to playing EVE and I'm not going to pretend I do. They got what they deserved.
If you are jumping into a camped system when the other side has numerous carriers with fighters assigned then you have no real option other than to bring a lot more people because you are very often the side to suffer most with the lag, you are stuck in bubbles and so cannot bail out (even if you could move or activate anything).
If you had, what, 250 say in system, then in the current game that alone is enough to cause horrendous lag especially with all the fighters I bet were on the gate, it would have been an absolute idiot that would jump in with 250 to face 250 set-up at preferred range with fighters.
You say "omg you blob" when the game as it is does not give you any real option to do anything else other than just say "well lets all go back home again" which is exactly what ended up happening with the bob/goon war.
Complaining about this kind of blob also totally ignores the realities of the game for most people, if you put a call to arms out you can hope for say 20% of your total numbers to be available and ready to go at that time but if people make the effort then you cant say "ok you 100 extra guys thanks for coming but we think you might cause too much of a lag issue so thanks for staging for 2 hours but can you **** off now". Sure they may be a couple of really hardcore entities where you could get away with this like the bobbits but they are very few and far between.
We had this same issue when there was the big fleet battles in the drone regions (though thank god at least there we never had titans to deal with as well which just make the whole idea of jumping into a laggy system beyond a joke).
